Updated: Jul 1

YAS is always on the lookout for opportunities that provide our members with hands-on experience and insider knowledge about the aquaculture industry. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to take 20 of our members for an exclusive tour of the Scottish Sea Farms facilities. This visit promises to be an unforgettable experience, offering a behind-the-scenes look at one of the leading names in aquaculture.

We are incredibly excited about this visit and look forward to seeing many of you there. It's an excellent chance to gain exclusive insights into the aquaculture industry, network with professionals, and see first-hand the sustainable practices that are shaping the future of seafood production.

What to Expect

Scottish Sea Farms is renowned for its commitment to sustainable and responsible aquaculture practices, offering over 50 different roles across 15 departments. This visit will provide YAS members with an up-close view of the entire production process, from egg to harvest. Here’s what we have planned for the day:

Morning Session (8:00 AM - 11:00 AM)
  • Introduction and Welcome: Meet the team at Scottish Sea Farms and get an overview of their operations.

  • Hatchery Tour: See where it all begins. Learn about the incubation process and how the farm nurtures salmon from eggs to smolts.

  • Q&A Session: Engage with the experts and get answers to all your questions about hatchery operations and fish health management.

Afternoon Session (11:30 AM - 1:00 PM)
  • Farm Tour: Head out to the open-water marine farms. Observe the feeding processes, fish welfare measures, and the technology used to monitor the fish environment.

  • Processing Tour: Visit the Shian processing facility to see how salmon are processed post-harvest.

Please note that the schedule may vary slightly depending on weather conditions and operational needs.

Attendees are responsible for their own travel arrangements and costs.

How to Apply

This exclusive visit is limited to 20 places and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. To apply, you must be a YAS member. Please email us at young.aqua.soc@gmail.com to secure your spot.
